About ISPN

The Mission of ISPN

To unite and strengthen the presence and the voice of specialty psychiatric-mental health nursing while influencing health care policy to promote equitable, evidence-based and effective treatment and care for individuals, families and communities.

ISPN Purpose

The purposes of the International Society of Psychiatric- Mental Health Nurses are to:

  • Unite and strengthen the presence and voice of specialty psychiatric-mental health (PMH) nurses
     
  • Promote equitable quality care for individuals and families with mental health problems
     
  • Enhance the ability of PMH nurses to work collaboratively on issues facing the profession
     
  • Provide expanded opportunities for networking and leadership development
     
  • Impact healthcare policy to facilitate effective use of human and financial resources
     

ISPN Strategic Objectives

Unite and strengthen the presence and voice of specialty PMH nurses by

  1. Increasing national awareness of PMH exemplars in practice, education, research
     
  2. Maintaining and growing collaborations with national organizations influencing practice
     
  3. Increasing the breath of member publications and presentations at national meetings
     

Promote equitable quality care for individuals and families with mental health problems by

  1. Advocating for issues surrounding diversity and social justice
     
  2. Using ISPN web site and journals to disseminate information on Evidence Based Practices
     
  3. Supporting and disseminating the work of our members via the conference and ISPN web site
     
  4. Supporting ISPN task forces/councils addressing key issues effecting specialty populations
     

Enhance the ability of PMH nurses to work collaboratively on issues facing the profession by

  1. Developing platforms for information sharing among ISPN members
     
  2. Strengthening ISPN's committee/council structure and provide direction for key initiatives
     
  3. Provide forums for input on key curricular issues impacting PMH education and workforce
     

Provide expanded opportunities for networking and leadership development by

  1. Holding a yearly, national scientific meeting
     
  2. Enlisting members to provide leadership to key ISPN initiatives
     
  3. Being an open, inclusive and effective organization
     
  4. Recognize the achievements of members who achieve exemplar standards
     

Impact healthcare policy to facilitate effective use of human and financial resources

  1. Increase ISPN involvement in national quality, consumer and work force committees
     
  2. Engaging with policy and decision makers, employers, funders, and other organizations in issues effecting the PMH workforce and mental health care
     
  3. Campaigning via IPSN or other PMH organizations when the discipline has a contribution to make on a specific issue involving mental health care or the specialty.
