About ISPN

ISPN Functions

The functions of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses are to:

  • Promote quality psychiatric nursing care delivered to infants, children, adults and communities;
     
  • Articulate essential components of psychiatric-mental health nursing in undergraduate and graduate education;
     
  • Promote and encourage research by advanced practice psychiatric-mental health nurses;
     
  • Identify efficacious interventions for targeted populations within the changing healthcare environment;
     
  • Develop and promote healthcare policy that emanates from psychiatric-mental health education, clinical practice and research;
     
  • Articulate the roles of psychiatric-mental health nurses in meeting the needs of individuals with mental illnesses, their families and others affected by mental illness or at high risk for developing mental illness;
     
  • Create systems for the dissemination of knowledge and sharing of resources within nursing and among other psychiatric-mental health disciplines;
     
  • Collaborate with other professionals to attain equitable access to mental healthcare for patients, families and communities.
