From Adversity to Insight: Lived Experience of ACEs in Nursing Presenter: Chantell McKay, RPN, MPN, RCC Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2026 Summary: Mental health nursing students and nurses with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) represent a potentially significant but underrecognized population within nursing education and practice. Despite the prevalence of ACEs and the potential for these experiences to influence career choice, empathy, therapeutic relationships, and professional practice, there are limited opportunities within nursing education and workplaces to openly explore these experiences. Stigma, fear of judgment, and concerns about disclosure may create additional barriers to seeking support. There is therefore a practice gap in how nursing education and workplaces recognize, support, and integrate the lived experiences of nurses with ACEs. Contact Hours: This activity has been submitted to Georgia Nurses Association for approval to award one contact hour. Georgia Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
