Mental Health Registered Nurse

Johnson County Mental Health is looking to fill the position of Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include:

  • Provides comprehensive nursing services; assesses the holistic needs of individuals by incorporating family and environmental factors; collects and documents patient health history; measures and records vital signs; completes health assessments and performs limited exams; obtains, processes, and handles lab specimens; manages, controls and implements medication administration programs; performs minor procedures and treatments within designated area of specialty.
  • Completes and submits documentation regarding patient care and condition; reviews quality and effectiveness of services provided and documented by other service providers.
  • Provides patients and families with supportive resources; educates patients in areas impacting health, wellness, and daily living activities; develops and provides specialized health training and education to staff.
  • Provides case management, care coordination, referral and follow-up to individuals and/or families; evaluates outcomes, effectiveness of plans, and makes changes as necessary.

Vocational, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related program that meets the requirements for the Registered Nurse license required. Director of Patient Care Services - Mental Health and Psychiatric Services

CHKD seeks a passionate and experienced Director of Patient Care Services for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work collaboratively with the director of our mental health service line and our medical director for mental health to design a transformational mental health program for children, adolescents, and their families. This program will include the addition of a $60 million pediatric mental health facility that will offer a full continuum of mental health services for children, teens, and their families, throughout the Hampton Roads region and beyond. The Director of Patient Care Services will have responsibility for program development, daily planning, work scheduling, and managing designated service personnel, along with coordinating and directing the workflow and functions of the 48-bed acute inpatient mental health unit which will be part of this new facility, in addition to a 12 bed acute impatient mental health unit in the main hospital. CHKD is the only freestanding children’s hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the only health system to build a freestanding pediatric mental health facility in our community. Every CHKD location, and each talented member of our team, is devoted to providing the highest quality pediatric care to the children we serve. Successful candidates must possess:
  • Minimum of five years of progressive mental health care leadership experience, preferably with children and adolescents
  • Master's degree in nursing.  A master’s degree in business administration, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field is acceptable provided the candidate also possesses a bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Current Virginia state license as a registered nurse or a registered nurse holding a valid compact state license.
  • Professional knowledge of the areas of responsibility to include theory, practice, and administration to be able to direct planning and implementation of this program.
  • Strong background in clinical research and regulatory compliance.
  • Previous experience in managing research grants and clinical contracts preferred.

Tenure Track Position - Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (NP)

California State University School of Nursing is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Nursing with experience in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. The faculty candidate will teach at the graduate level in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program and may also teach courses at the Undergraduate level in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

An earned doctorate in nursing or related field (e.g., DNS, Ph.D.) from an accredited university. Doctoral candidates who are ABD are welcome to apply for this position. All degree requirements must be completed prior to the start of hire during the 2019/2020 academic year (i.e., prior to January 2, 2020). A Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution is required if doctorate is not in nursing. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and knowledge and/or experience on CCNE evaluation guidelines for accreditation. National certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with at least two years of advanced practice nursing experience.
