2024 Abstract Guidelines

The International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) is offering an exciting program that addresses innovation in clinical practice, education, research  and leadership in psychiatric-mental health nursing that reflects prioritization of self-care and healing. Innovative interventions in practice and education include the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual simulation environments, as well as the implications for leadership and policy.

  • Resilience and wellness in mental healthcare education and practice.

  • Collaborative and integrated models of mental healthcare that improve individual, family, and population health in the context of multiple chronic conditions, disability, and/or socioeconomic disadvantage.

  • Collaborative and integrated models of mental healthcare that improve transitions in care and recovery.

  • Cutting edge nursing simulation and use of virtual environments in mental health care, including the benefits and challenges.

  • Cutting-edge nursing simulation and virtual technology models  for surveillance and identification of maladaptive patterns.
  • Psychiatric-mental health nursing research, practice, leadership, education, psychotherapy, and/or psychopharmacology projects that incorporate models of care for individuals, groups, and communities including multiple chronic conditions, disability, and socioeconomic disadvantage that improve individual and population health while reducing disparities.

Annual Conference Objectives

At the end of this Conference, the participant should be able to:

  • Implement two techniques or exemplars into curriculum and/or educational programs.
  • Apply evidence of two psychiatric-mental healthcare research and innovations into practice.
  • Identify two approaches and or tools that psychiatric mental health nurses can leverage AI technologies to influence decision- making, enhance patient monitoring, personalized care, and navigate ethical considerations.
  • Evaluate two leadership and policy strategies that address health equity, reduction of health disparities, and include vulnerable populations.
  • Discuss two significant trends related to the roles of psychiatric mental health nurses practice including the role of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, and nurse psychotherapist.
  • Identify two approaches and or tools that psychiatric mental health nurses can leverage to prioritize personal well-being to cultivate resilience.
  • Implement one to two psychotherapy techniques in practice with your treatment population.
  • Utilize two psychopharmacological/integrative health evidence-based practice changes to incorporate into clinical practice that improve individual and population health, while reducing mental health disparities across the lifespan.
 

Types of Submissions
Abstracts will be sorted into five (5) categories:

  • Education/Teaching Pedagogy
  • Evidence-Based Practice and Research
  • Leadership Development
  • Psychopharmacology & Integrative Health (by population track)
  • Psychotherapy

Pharmacology Content
Pharmacology contact hours are designed to enhance the learner’s ability to prescribe and/or monitor patients on pharmacotherapy. It includes topics such as pharmacokinetics and clinical applications of drugs. Pharmacology contact hours must be supported by an activity’s objective(s) and detailed content. Incidental mention of drugs or a pharmacological treatment does not qualify for pharmacology credit. 

Presentation Format

Oral Presentations (30 or 60 minutes):
Are focused on the presentation of a specific topic (e.g., research, clinical, administrative, education) that can be presented in a limited amount of time. Preference will be given to presentations that demonstrate active engagement of participants.

Workshop (90 minutes):
Is a meeting in which a group of people engages in intense discussion with facilitated activities and exercises on a particular subject. A workshop is generally more interactive, and participants have an opportunity to practice hands-on skill building. Preference will be given to abstracts that clearly meet the description above.

Poster Presentation:
A poster presentation is an exhibit of a topic that provides a forum for one-to-one discussion with colleagues. Research in progress may be submitted as a poster before completion.
