Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2026 Summary: This educational activity presents an evidence-based review of clozapine, integrating current clinical literature, real-world outcomes, and practical implementation strategies. Rachel Streiff will present the history of clozapine, current evidence regarding its efficacy, safety, mortality benefits, utilization trends, and advocacy efforts to improve access, including outcomes from the TEAM DANIEL cohort and other published research. Nick Eisemann-Astone, PMHNP-BC, will present evidence-based clinical strategies for patient selection, initiation, titration, monitoring, adverse effect management, and long-term treatment based on his experience caring for individuals with serious mental illness on Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams. Crystal Fox, RN, will provide historical clinical perspective on the introduction of clozapine into state psychiatric hospitals during the early 1990s and discuss its impact on patient care from the viewpoint of a psychiatric nurse. Together, these presentations integrate research evidence, clinical expertise, and historical perspective to improve participants' knowledge, confidence, and ability to apply evidence-based clozapine practices in clinical settings.
